Reading Olympics

Both Art teachers participate in the Reading Olympics program here at SJMS. They have a team that meets every Wednesday. Students are encouraged to read books and will ultimately compete in a competition!
Here is a very excited student receiving her reward for reading! Great job!
Whose team will come out on top? Will it be Team Awesome Reading Titans or the Dystopian Dreamers?

You're invited!!!!

Kluender Art 78

A4 and B4 Art 78 students are working on Surrealist Scenes! We learned all about Salvador Dali and the Surrealist movement in Art!

We learned that the Surrealists used the idea of chance and randomness to create works of art. We even did a Weekly Journal Surrealist game called Exquisite Corpse.

Students made collages from unrelated found images from magazines. Then, we used a grid to help us transfer the image into a drawing.

Students are using their new skills mixing and blending colored pencils to finish off the drawing!

Kluender art 78

More amazing ceramic projects! :)

Kluender A2 Art 78

My A2 Art 78 class is working on finishing up their mixed media selfies! Students sent me a photo of themselves, we altered it using Adobe Photoshop CS2, a graphics program we use in Computer ARt class. Then, we printed them onto t-shirt transfer paper and ironed them onto fabric. Students embellished the fabric using paint, texture plates, oil pastels, sharpies, beads, embroidery, paper and mod podge, etc. These are 11x14 inches of amazing-ness! They will soon be huing in the office, so be sure to stop by and check them out in person!

Hooray! Check out our AWESOME sgraffito platters! Art 78 students did such a good job planning, building, smoothing, scratching, glazing, firing, and grading their ceramic pieces!

Great job, guys! I know it was hard work and a lot of attention to detail, but the results were worth it!
