Kluender art 8

Students are beginning their SYMBOLIST STILL LIFE. They have chosen a colored paper based on the symbolic meaning of the color and how it represents their personality.

Now, they are creating a value scale! They have two options for color....MONOCHROMATIC or COMPLEMENTARY! We practiced this last week for Journal #5.

Kluender Art 8

This week, Art 8 students are continuing to draw from observation by adding flowers to their can drawings.

Once the drawing is complete, students are making artistic choices about the materials. They have lots of options to make their artwork unique and individual! They have the option of using pencil to shade, or colored pencil and a huge variety of watercolor techniques to choose from.

Week 3 Journal focused on local artist, Heide Trepanier. Students did a watercolor "blob" drawing, then traced it with sharpie to outline the shapes. Some students chose to scan their drawings in to add a colored background using Photoshop for EXTRA CREDIT :)

Kluender Art 8

Art 8 students spent the last block drawing from discarded cans and bottles. We are sharpening our observational drawing skills and learning to use our eyes to see instead of our brains. Practicing good oservation makes for better drawing skill!

We have been discussing the idea of juxtposition in artwork. Juxtapose means to place two things that are opposites next to each other in an artwork. For this assignment, we are exploring this concept with the cans and flowers, which will be added later: contrasting man-made versus nature, ugly versus beautiful.

Once our drawings are complete, we will be adding color using some of the watercolor techniques we learned on our "Water Exploration" days.

Kluender Art 8

Students are starting off the year with a drawing pre-assessment. This allows me to pinpoint where each student's skill level is and how to help them grow individually at their level.

We've been working hard in Art 8 to add value to our sign langauge drawings! Students could use grayscale or colored pencil to add shading. These are due NEXT WEEK before we leave for Spring Break!!!!
