Ryan Exploratory 6 A2

Our mandalas are almost done!!!!
A pencil version, ready to be colored!

Above is a completed mandala, with the weaving glued down. Totally colored in! And ready to be graded!
Here is a completed mandala, with the completed critique sheets. Critique sheets are how I check for understanding in the classroom. It asks student to grade themselves thoughtfully, and then write a few sentences about key concepts.

They are due at the end of class on FRIDAY! :)

Art is Thinking

One common misconception that art class is not a "real" class. In reality art class is one of the most important classes your child takes. They have to be able to analyze, evaluate, and create. These are all higher level thinking skills. One way we check for understanding is with a "Critique Sheet." Students have to answer questions and justify their opinion using complete sentences. Here is a great sample of a child demonstrating their knowledge.

Kluender A2 Art6

After completing projects, all students must fill out a Critique Sheet. This allows students to evaluate their own work and let's them see how I assessed their skills and came up with their grade.
