Kluender Art

Here is what each block is working on after Thanksgiving break. This is always posted on my whiteboard.

Kluender B4 Art 78

When students are in between projects, they are working on their "semester project". For Art 78, students chose a phot that we printed 8x10 inches. They used a grid to enlarge the image to a 16x20 inch drawing. Students then have the option to complete the artwork in the material (s) of their choice. These are due in January.

Here are a few that are already done! Way to go guys! :)

This student colored her fish in colored pencil and handcolored paper for the seaweed, rocks and coral. The background is dyed with bleeding tissue paper. The objects were cut out and mounted on 3D-Os to make them pop off the page!@

This student painted her elephant with neon paint. Then she created a mosaic background using cut up pices from magazines!

Kluender Art 8

Art 8 students have finished painting all of their cardboard pieces for the Wesselman Maquettes and are starting to glue them together.... This is just a sneak preview! ;)

Kluender A2 Art 6

Art 6 is beginning their CLAY PROJECT! All Art students are very excited about working with clay! We were introduced to the Japanese lucky cat, Maneki Neko. Students have been designing their own versions on paper before we will build them in clay.

Our clay days for A2 will be as follows:

Tuesday 12/3- creating and joining two pinch pots for the body

Thursday 12/5- Adding the major parts like the head, legs and arms

Monday 12/9- Finishing building the major parts and attaching

Wednesday 12/11- Adding details

Friday 12/13- Finishing up! Last clay day

If you miss a clay day for any reason, you can make it up during FLEX with a PRE_SIGNED PASS from me :) or catch up in class during clay days. After 12/13, NO CLAY will be worked on in class!!!

Czaplicki B1 Georgia O'Keefe Pastel

Our 6th graders are working hard in pastel to create realistic but large drawings in oil pastels. 

Below a student practices the different techniques for oil pastels: scumbling, gradient, hatching, cross hatching, pointillism, and sgriaffito.

Czaplicki Exploratory A2 Materials Explorations

Students are experimenting with materials to create a non representational design. They were inspired by the art work of Andy Goldsworthy.

Spirit Week

We are finally done with our Dia de Los Muertos Sugar Skulls!!!! WOW! We have some talented sixth grade embroiderers!!!!!

Art 6 students draw their sketches really large, to mimic the style of Georgia O' Keefe. We also worked on cropping, zooming, and enlarging.

They are looking awesome!

Kluender Art 8

Mrs. Kluender's Art 8 students (A3, A4, B3) spent the last block learning to create value in paint! So far this year, we've done value in grayscale pencil and in colored pencil.

We learned how to mix paint to make tints and shades to create a vlaue scale. Then, we applied those shading skills to a 2D drawing of a bottle to create the illusion of depth using value!

This is most of my Art 8 students first time attempting to paint something using shading, so it was difficult.....but they did a great job!

Part of learning to paint in the studio is learning to maintain a shared studio space. We have a bit of practice to do on conserving paint and studio clean up, but we're working on it...We're all working together to keep our workspace safe and clean! :)

Once students have finished cutting out their cardboard objects, they will apply these painting techniques to them. Their goal is to make the 2D cardboard objects appear to be 3D by applying the shading techniques in paint! 

A3 Czaplicki Drawing Like Georgia

Students focus as they draw flowers, bones, and shells. Just like the artist Georgia O'Keefe.

We zoomed and cropped! We sketched and shaded!

Next up we will draw our favorite one larger. Then we are going to color and shade it in using oil pastels.

Art is Thinking

One common misconception that art class is not a "real" class. In reality art class is one of the most important classes your child takes. They have to be able to analyze, evaluate, and create. These are all higher level thinking skills. One way we check for understanding is with a "Critique Sheet." Students have to answer questions and justify their opinion using complete sentences. Here is a great sample of a child demonstrating their knowledge.  

Czaplicki A3 & B1 Georgia O'Keefe

Meet Frank! He's visiting in the art room for a few days as our artist's get ready to emulate the great Georgia O'Keefe. Georgia is famous for using skulls, flowers, and seashells in her work. The next two classes we will draw these objects and then using pastels to color them in.

Kluender B4 art 78

Art 78 is working on adding Sharpie to their OP Art projects! They are looking great!

Kluender B2 computer art 78

Computer Art students are currently working on two projects.

The studio project is a kaleidoscope name design. Those who are done are working on catching up their ARt History Journals or their Artsy Alphabet semester project.

For the digital project, students are using two images of celebrities to alter in Photoshop. These will late be used to create a 3D accordion artwork!
