Kluender B4 art 78

Art 78 students learned all about Op Art! We are creating a self portrait with an Op Art background and spheres!

Students have to be neat and pay attention when using Sharpies...there is little room for mistakes in a project like this. Good thing they're focused and working hard! :)

Now that we've completed our digital kaleidoscopes, students are making a kaleidoscope using the latters of their names!

Students are altering two celebrity photos in preparation for the next digital artwork!

We have a lot of different things going on at once in Computer Art class....students have to be organized, motivated and stay on task to get it all done on time!

Kluender A2 Art 6

Mrs. Kluender's Art 6 students learned all about Spanish holiday, El Dia De Los Muertos (the day of the dead). We even watched a travel channel video!

Part of the dia de los muertos festivities include making calveras de azucar, or sugar skulls.

Students planned their own sugar skull designs. We're now learning basic emboidery techniques to create these designs in stitched form!
:)

Art Guild!

Mrs. Kluender and Ms.Czaplicki sponsor Art Guild. Our club is dedicated to providing art enrichment opportunities to our current Art GT students as well as guiding GT candidates through the portfolio process.

Some of our current Art GT students worked on painting Mrs. Hicks Theater Arts room windows to advertise the play, Honk!

Art on display

Mrs. Kluender and Ms. Czaplicki are working hard to display student art in the halls of SJMS and throughout the community! :)

Kluender A2 Art 6

Wow! Look at these finished pieces by Art 6!

Art 6 students combined all the skills we have learned so far into one AWESOME COMPOSITION!

Czaplicki A2 Clay Whistles

A prarie dog whistle!
And a sea turtle whistle!
We have our first few whistles today. Soon they will be fired in what is called a "bisque firing." This will heat them to tempertures close to 1800 degree! It will cure them and make sure that all the water is removed. It will make them very hard and durable. Then we will glaze them. They will be fired one more time and then our beautiful musical instruments will be ready to play.

After completing projects, all students must fill out a Critique Sheet. This allows students to evaluate their own work and let's them see how I assessed their skills and came up with their grade.

Czaplicki B3 Drawn Portraits

Look at these FABULOUS portraits! Hand drawn! Lots of value! These can be very frustrating, but VERY rewarding! Very soon each Art 7/8 Student will have 2 portraits. One hand drawn and super realistic. What a great opportunity for us to compare and constrast! We've developed two different skill sets (painting & drawing) both under the larger umbrella of drawing from observation. Great job guys!

Czaplicki B3 Painted Portraits

They are ALMOST DONE! AH! THEY LOOK SO GOOD! Please give your 7th & 8th grader a pat on the back!
We've got warm and cool color examples here!

Czaplicki & Kluender Open Studio Time

On Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday Ms. Kleunder and Czaplicki hold "Open Studio" time during Flex. This gives students an opportunity to come and finish incomplete work, catch up if they're behind, or make sure that they are going ABOVE and BEYOND to get that "A!"
It also gives them a time to get some more individual attention if they are having trouble!

Czaplicki B1 Sketchbook and Masks

Today after our sketchbook we did an informal critque of our drawings. We talked about "glows" and "grows." Each student chose another student's sketchbook  and gave one succesful part of their drawing. Then we gave a grow- or something that the artist could work on. We worked on constructive criticism. Critiquing is a great way to work on our analytical skills. We have to evaluate the artwork, make decisions about the quality, and express it elequently.

Our masks are almost done. We based these off of fear. See if you can figure out who is afraid of spiders, who is afraid of chickens, who is afraid of snakes, and who is afraid of mythical creatures!
Now we're going to paint them with acrylic paint! THEN we'll critique them!

Czaplicki A4 Pop Portraits

The portriats are almost done and they are looking AWESOME!
We are using colors inspired by pop artist Andy Warhol.  We've got 3 more classes to wrap them up! I cannot wait to show these off in the hallways of Stonewall!

Kluender art 8

Art 8 is starting to finish up their can drawings....exciting!!!!! Great job, guys!

Kluender B2 computer art 78

Here are some examples of student's finished digital artwork. These are animal drawings colored in with Monochromatic color schemes using Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Czaplicki B3 Self Portrait in Pencil

While we are completing our large paintings- we are also working on drawing self-portraits. We are drawing from life. This involves a lot of concentration. First they must get the proportions of their face correct. Then they must draw their features to look like theirs. Then they are adding layers upon layer of value. Shading their face will make it looks 3D and realistic. We will have both the portraits completed next week. It will be neat to compare and constrast the two portraists.

Computer Art students have just started their second studio project. They are working on creating a kaleidoscope using the letters of their names.

For their second digital project, students are working on creating kaleidoscopes using photos and Adobe Photoshop!

B1 Czaplicki Studio Maintenance

One great skill our students get in the art room is they learn how to maintain a working art studio! They do a wonderful job cleaning up after themselves, putting things away, and working in teams to get all the task done.

The arts are great because they develop higher level thinking skills but also work on teaching real world skills.
